About Susan Yandel, MS
Board Certified Nurse Practitioner
My medical care is based on the philosophy that caring for an individual's entire being is of the utmost importance. After 20 years in health care, I remain committed to this philosophy. As a result, a high percentage of my client's are from repeat customers and referrals.
My areas of special interest include Endocrinology (the study of hormones) and Mental Health. While working as a Nurse Practitioner at The Institute for Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, I developed a profound appreciation for the tight link between hormones and mood. Every Endocrine disease impacts mental health. As a result, treating mental health conditions together with screening for Endocrine pathology such as Diabetes or Thyroid disease is a routine part of my everyday medical care.
In addition, I have spent many years practicing in Internal Medicine, and I have always believed that mental health care is an integral piece of basic Primary care. In today's Primary care arena, there are a number of barriers limiting access to affordable Psychiatric Care for conditions like depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD. As a result, I have more and more people looking to me, their Primary Care provider, for treatment of these common mental health conditions. Unfortunately, too many providers treat mood as an isolated health issue, so the quality mental health treatment in the Primary care environment can be inconsistent. My practice reflects the reality of how our bodies work physically, mentally, and spiritually.
I would like to offer you this expertise incorporating both traditional and non-traditional approaches. I am available for house calls for general primary care evaluations and at Karuna Counseling for the evaluation and management of mental health issues.
